The term “farmhouse” brings memories and thoughts of traditional Christmas decorations. And even though Farmhouse windows are found on different types of house styles other than just ones that were created with the Farmhouse style of architecture, traditional Christmas decorations still look best on this traditional window style.
Indoor Simple Decorations
A single white candle sitting on the window sill of every window in a home has a chilling and beautiful effect at night. While this can been done at any time of the year, for some reason this effect seems to take on a Christmas feeling to it. You can leave the candles as they are and still have a beautiful affect, or you can add a candle wreath to the base of the candle to give it an additional Christmas look.
No matter which way you go though, always use an electric candle and not a real candle. The electric candle will still create the same look and without the danger of starting a fire.
Outdoor Simple Decorations
One outdoor decorating idea that looks great on Farmhouse windows is to hang a single evergreen wreath at every window in the front of the home. The wreaths can be hung at the top of the window or they can be hung in the middle of the window with the help of a wide, decorative Christmas ribbon that is attached to the top of the window.
If you have a lot of wind in your area during December though, stick with just hanging the wreath from the top of the window. Having it hung on the ribbon will increase the chance that the wreath will scrape back and forth across the glass of the window when the window blows.
You can also add a red Christmas bow to the bottom of each wreath to make it even more festive.
Indoor Sparkling Decorations
For a decoration scene that is a little more complicated, but gorgeous, hang glass snowflakes in each pane of your Farmhouse window. So, if you have 6 panes of glass in your window, you will have 6 snowflakes hanging in your window.
Then wrap white Christmas lights around the interior edge of the window. You want the light to be seen on the outside of the house, but you don’t want the string of lights to be seen.
During the day the sun will make the glass snowflakes sparkle, and at night the light from the white Christmas light will cause them to do the same. So both day and night your snowflakes will be dazzling in your Farmhouse windows.
