There are so many things you can do with your windows at Easter time that it’s almost as fun as Christmas. Using the main symbol of the holiday, you can easily decorate your windows with Easter eggs and a spool of fishing line.
How to Make the Easter Window Hangings
An Easter window hanging is a very simple concept. Basically, you take the clear fishing line and attach one end to the top of the window sill and the other end to the egg. You can vary the length of the fishing line to make the eggs hanging at random or in a particular pattern. Some people like hanging the eggs in an arch and then putting an Easter window picture in the middle of the arch.
Plastic Hunting Easter Eggs
The specifics of how you make these Easter window hangings depend heavily on what type of egg you use. Large plastic eggs that are used for Easter egg hunts aren’t really a good choice for two reasons. One, they are designed to come apart in the middle and having parts of your window display falling open every now and then will probably get a little annoying.
Two, you would have to use tape to attach the fishing line to the egg. Tape already does not stick well to an object like the top of an egg, but add in the sun from the window and you will probably be picking up whole eggs that fell off the tape alongside the half ones.
Other Easter Eggs
Easter eggs that were designed for decorating rather than for hunting always work better for window hanging. There are even fancy, sparkling Easter eggs created to be hung that come with their own ribbon that the fishing line can be tied to.
The ones that don’t have their own ribbon can be threaded with the fishing line. If you are using a hollow, soft plastic egg simply take a thumbtack and poke a hole in the top and the bottom of the egg. Then thread a long needle with the fishing line, insert the needle in the hole at top of the egg and push it out through the hole at the bottom.
Unthread the needle and tie a good knot in the fishing line at the bottom of the egg so that it doesn’t slip back through. Hang your egg in the window and you are ready to do the next one.
