It used to be that homeowners had to choose between curtains or shutters for their windows, because those were the only two choices available. Today though, homeowners have a huge selection of window treatments that come in all different shapes, sizes, colors, materials, and functionality. There are so many choices that it is almost impossible for someone to not be able to find something that will work for them. For those that don’t like to settle for what everyone else is using, here are some alternative window treatments to choose from.Window Privacy SheersPrivacy sheers are a beautiful mix of sheers and vertical blinds. Each vane opens and closes just like a blind, but the material on each vane is sheer fabric. This window treatment can be controlled by a wand and a cord, or some models can be operated with a remote depending on whom you purchase your window privacy sheers from.Gliding Window PanelsGliding window panels are something that most homeowners have never seen before. These window treatments are similar to vertical blinds in that they open to from side to side, but they do not twist open. They are made with large panels that all connect to each other on a track above the window and are weighted down on the bottom. When pulled open, the panels fold back on each other to take up as little room as possible for when you want to enjoy the view and light from your window. When they are closed, they stretch out and become one large window panel that covers your entire window.Gliding window panels are great for very large windows that other window treatments cannot cover effectively. They can also be used in the home to as a divider between rooms that you want to visibly separate.Retractable AwningsMany homeowners don’t think about awnings being a window treatment, they consider them more to be shading for patios and decks. However, retractable awnings block out the sun and help you control the amount of light in your home the same as curtains, blinds or shutters do.The only difference is that they do not provide you with the in-home privacy that these other window treatments can offer.
