Just like peanut butter and chocolate, windows and doors go great together. You will usually find them hanging out at the same house together and very rarely will you ever find one without the other. So why not put them together in the same space?Windows in DoorsWhile solid doors are great for privacy, having a window in your door is great for looks. There are many different variations of having a window in your door, including:

  • Arched windows in the upper part of the door
  • Rectangle windows in the middle of the door
  • Grilled window in top half of the door
  • Long windows running the length of one side of the door
  • Doors that are 80% glass, making your door a window-door

If you are hesitant to have glass in your door because of privacy issues, you don’t have to be. The glass that is designed into a door is done so with privacy in mind. You will find that most of the glass that is at eye level is frosted, distorted, or has patterns in it that prevent anyone looking in from getting a good view. The bulk of the clear glass that is designed into a door is either large enough that it justifies a window treatment being used or is in the upper part of the door where it is too high for anyone to look through without assistance.Windows Above DoorsIf you still prefer your door being solid, consider having a window installed above your door. Having a window above your door will still give you the improved look of combining a window and a door, without worrying about the loss of privacy.Having a window that high will also provide you with an increased amount of natural light in your home, which is not only healthier for you than artificial light it is also free.Windows Along DoorsAnother option for those that prefer the look of a solid door to one with a window in it is to have the windows installed on the sides of the door. Depending on how much room you have around your door, you can go with windows on one side of the door or on both sides. You also have the option of going with windows the same length of your door or ones that only go half the length. For more information on how you can incorporate windows in with your doors, contact us today!
