If you will be having guests over for Thanksgiving or Christmas you are probably planning on some intensive cleaning. To help you with your cleaning, here are some great window cleaning tips that will make your windows sparkle fast.
Window VacuumingNormally when you clean windows you would clean from the top down. But that’s for the glass. For the entire window you are going to start at the bottom instead, with vacuuming the window track and the window sill. This will get up all the loose dirt and dead bugs that have collected in there since the last time you cleaned. It will also make this area easier to clean with the cleaner if all the loose stuff removed first.Cleaning the GlassNext, spray the entire window with window cleaner and clean from the top down. By working from the top down you don’t have to keep going back and wipe up the cleaner that is running down from the top of the window. To make sure that you get the window really clean though, it is actually best to spray and clean smaller sections at a time. By concentrating on getting a smaller section of the window all clean the first time, it will decrease the chance of having to go back over the window to get spots you missed from a once over cleaning.Once you are done with the glass, don’t forget to wipe down the areas around the window and in the track with the cleaner also.Getting a Good PolishOnce the glass in the window is dry, add a little extra shine by taking an old, soft tee-shirt and use it to polish your clean windows. The Outside of the WindowIf you live in an area where there is already snow and freezing temperatures, there is really nothing you can do to get the outside of your windows clean. Any water and most cleaning fluids that you would use will end up freezing to the glass. And while this could end up creating some pretty awesome ice decorations on your windows, we really don’t recommend it.Yes, there are some window cleaners that have anti-freeze in them, but they may damage parts of the window. You also don’t want the anti-freeze window cleaner to drip down in the soil and contaminate it. So, it is best to just leave the outside alone until it gets warmer. If you have been blessed with temps above freezing, get out there and clean your windows the way you normally would in the summer.
