Even when the weather turns cold and frost becomes a common sight on your windowpanes, you may still want to brave the cold and clean the windows from time to time. Whether you're placing holiday decorations in the windows or changing the battery in your flameless window candles, you're sure to notice some smudges and other debris that need to be addressed.Luckily, some winter window cleaning tips can help you to do the job efficiently without freezing over. Here are some tips to consider for the best ways to clean your windows in the wintertime.
Remove as much debris as you can before adding any water or liquid. Simply vacuum out the windowsills to remove any bugs, dirt, or other debris using the vacuum attachment or a handheld vacuum. You can also use paper towels to remove the dirt and buildup if a vacuum is out of the question.
Clean the tracks of the windows. Use a cotton swab soaked in white vinegar or cleaner, or an old toothbrush dipped in soapy water, to scrub away the buildup of dirt, pollen, and other fragments.
Get your windowpanes back to sparkling. Use your favorite winter-approved auto glass cleaner to wipe down the panes with a paper towel. Windshield washer fluid will keep from freezing on your glass just as it does when you wash your windshield while driving around on a bitter-cold day. If your windows tilt inward, release the latch so you can wipe the exterior of your windows as well for best results. Next it's time to move onto the sills.
Wash away all the grime from the windowsills. You can wash your windowsills with a little soapy water and a sponge or scrub brush, or you can simply use all-purpose household cleaning wipes to pick up the bulk of the remaining dirt. Once the sills are clean, you'll be sure to feel the great accomplishment of washing your windows despite the winter season.
The cold air from outside mixed with the water and chemicals may bring on a bit of a chill. To help keep your hands warm during the cleaning process, be sure to wear a pair of rubber gloves to protect your fingers. And don’t forget: next year, a good cleaning before it gets cold could allow you to avoid this chore altogether.
