Looking for a fun, but nice looking, Thanksgiving decoration for your window that you can do with your kids?Try this easy project that will have you and your kids creating faux stained glass artwork to decorate your windows this Thanksgiving.Tissue Paper Stained Glass WindowMaterials:
Tissue Paper of different colors
2 pieces of contact paper
Scissors
Project:
Before removing the backing on the contact paper, place the two pieces on top of each other (with the backing together) and cut out your Thanksgiving shape.
Cut the different colors of tissue paper into 1 inch squares.
Remove the backing on one of the pieces of contact paper and arrange the tissue paper squares on the contact paper until it is fully covered.
Remove the backing on the 2nd piece of contact paper and carefully place it on top of the 1st piece, so that the sticky side connects with the contact paper.
Trim any tissue paper that is hanging off the side.
Crayon Stained Glass WindowMaterials:
Crayons of different colors
Wax paper
Scissors
Pencil Sharpener
Iron
Scrap paper
2 pieces of Construction paper
Project:
Use the pencil sharpener to sharpen the crayons and create wax shavings.
Place the wax shavings on the piece of wax paper.
Fold the piece of wax paper in half and place it on a piece of scrap paper.
Place another piece of scrap paper on top of the wax paper and iron the paper with the iron on the medium setting, until the crayons are melted.
Trace a Thanksgiving image on each of the pieces of construction paper and cut them out.
Secure the wax paper to the frame that is left on one of the pieces of construction paper so that the melted crayons show through where the image was cut out of.
Place the 2nd piece of construction paper on top of the other side of the wax paper and secure.
Once your faux stained glass is completed, attach to one of your windows with regular tape or double-sided tape. If you want to get the full effect of the sun shining through your project and make it glow beautifully like real stained glass, choose a window that gets lots of sun during the day for the tissue stained glass and only part sun for the crayon stained glass. The tissue stained glass will need more sunlight to bring out the colors than the crayon stained glass, and the crayon stained glass will melt if the sunlight coming through the window gets too hot during the day.
