One of the more popular architecture style of the colonists, the Georgian style of architecture can be found up and down the East Coast. Traits of Georgian StyleGeorgian style is a blend of the simple and decorative. The basic structure of the house is square or rectangular in shape, and is very symmetrical. The front door is located right in the center of the front of the home, on the main floor. The sides of the door are usually flanked with flat columns on each side that matches the decorative crown above the door.The roof has very little over hang and is pitched just enough for snow to slide off of it with medium ease.The Windows of Georgian StyleThe windows of the Georgian style house are generally one of the first things that people use to identify the architecture style. The 2^nd floor has 5 windows across the front of the house and the main floor has 2 windows on each side of the front door.The windows are usually double-hung sash windows. Each window is made up of 9-12 small window panes that are separated by thick grilles.Some owners of Georgian style homes have made modern additions to their homes, so the windows may not match the historical architecture style.
