Window Installation[/caption]Having glass windows in your bathroom is a nice benefit for both your health and your home. Windows allow light in, which is good for our emotional well-being and is a natural way to fight off depression. Having natural light in the house also saves on the electricity bill.Being able to open windows in the bathroom brings fresh air into the room of the house that has the worst reputation of having mold and mildew. The open windows allow the moisture that mold and mildew need to grow, to escape the room. An open glass window also allows fresh air into the bathroom, so you don’t end up breathing in moldy air.Installing a Smaller Glass WindowHaving large windows in your bathroom can provide lots of light, but can also expose more than you want to show as well. To have the best of both worlds, install smaller, rectangle windows near the ceiling.Having them closer to the ceiling and longer than they are wide will still allow the light and fresh air in, but will also give you the privacy you want in that room. Another benefit for having a glass window up near the ceiling is that it will allow steam from the shower to escape outside easier. Because steam rises, the window will be up there for it to rise up to and out of.With other glass windows, where the opening is halfway up the wall or lower, the steam still escapes; but there is always some lingering up near the ceiling.Replacing with a Fixed Glass WindowHaving a glass window that you can open is an easy way to vent your bathroom. Another alternative is installing a fan that vents from the bathroom to the outside of your home. With one of these vents installed, you could opt to go with a fixed, glass window in your bathroom instead.Fixed, glass windows provide you will all of the benefits of having natural light in your bathroom, but they are easier to clean. These types of windows are ideal for those that can’t keep up with their housekeeping or can’t reach windows in high places.Replacing the Glass Window with Glass BlockIf you already have a large glass window installed in your bathroom and don’t want to lose the abundance of light it allows in, think about glass blocks. At the upper part of where the larger window currently is, install a smaller, glass window. Then use glass blocks to fill in the rest of the hole that is left in the wall.Be sure to use glass blocks that are created so they allow light in, but you can’t see through them like you can a regular, glass window.Knowledgeable Renewal by Andersen team members are here to answer any questions you may have about replacement windows and doors.
