Red Rock

Before you know it we will be enjoying weekend barbeques that end with beautiful, red strawberries topped with whipped cream on shortcake. The red in those strawberries, as well as the red cherries and juicy, red watermelon we enjoy when it gets warmer remind us that it is summertime. It’s time for playing outdoors, vacations, camping and fresh produce. But other than being the color of summer, red has many other meanings. It even creates emotions in people that see it, and can give people an idea of your personality if you have red doors and windows on your home.Cultural Meanings of a Red DoorWhen people look at other homes, they may notice that there are quite a few red front doors; even if red is not a part of the color scheme of the home. For a very long time, red has been the color that homeowner’s paint their front as a warm welcome to visitors. Somewhere along the way as our culture expanded, this practice stopped being handed down and many don’t realize why people have red front doors. In China, doors are painted red for good luck. Many people around the world have red doors to prevent bad spirits and even ghosts from entering their homes. The Christian churches use red doors to show their belief in the saving power of Christ’s blood and to represent that the inside of their churches are holy ground. The Meanings behind the Color RedWe associate the color red with the summer because red is the color of warmth and life. It also represents passion for life and for a love.People that have red doors and windows on their home are usually full of life, are energetic, and are easily excited.Too Much Red Is BadHouses should never, ever be done with red doors and windows, as well as a red house. Too much red makes people no longer feel welcome, but irritated an angry. The once welcoming color becomes overwhelming to our emotions and is no longer pleasant. If you are one that likes the color red, stick to just a red front door or at most a combination of a red front door and the red trim around the windows. Then choose a more neutral color, like white, for the rest of the house. The contrast of the red with a neutral color will calm the aggressiveness of the red and make it a welcoming color once again.
