Thanksgiving Centerpieces from an Old Window

Setting a beautiful spread for Thanksgiving dinner is always enhanced by centerpieces and decorations. Make a unique centerpiece for this year’s Thanksgiving dinner by incorporating the help of an old window.How big of a window you use will depend on how big your table is, but a smaller window will work well on any table. Both of these ideas also use multi-pane windows because they are more sturdy for the decorations than a large, single piece of glass.Old Window Pumpkins and GourdsTo create this centerpiece, fill each of the individual panes with dried beans. Next, place a small pumpkin or gourd in the center of each pane. You can leave the centerpiece this way, or you can weave fall leaf ivy between the pumpkins and gourds to give it a little more color.When you choose the beans to use, the more colorful the beans are the better; but you also want to make sure that they contrast to the color of the pumpkin or gourd you are going to use in the center. For example, you don’t want to use white northern beans with white pumpkins. It would be better to use black-eyed peas or lentils with white pumpkins because of the difference in colors.Also, don’t feel like you have to put the same pumpkin our gourd on each of the panes. You can mix up the colors or put pumpkins and gourds together. You will want to keep two things in mind though. One, don’t use gourds and pumpkins that are heavy. You are working with panes of glass, and they can only handle so much weight.Two, again, be aware of the colors. You don’t want colors that are all the same or the color of your centerpiece will be boring.Old Window Base with Cornucopia Using an old window puts a new twist on the cornucopia, Thanksgiving centerpiece. Instead, of just putting the cornucopia in the center of the table, you are going to put it on the center of the old window.What you add to the rest of the centerpiece is a preference of taste. As a simple addition, you can drop a couple fake fall leaves on top of the window, or you can create a loose ring around the cornucopia with some fall leaf ivy. For more complex centerpieces, you can also add dried beans or popcorn kernels in the panes of the old window.
