Window washing is a tedious chore, but it is a must for window glass visibility and maintaining a home's curb appeal. In this post, top window company Renewal by Andersen® of Kentucky discusses some of the do’s and don’ts of cleaning windows.

The Do’s and Don’ts of Window Cleaning

The Do’s

First, clean out dirt and debris by sweeping the window frame. This prevents dirt build up that could keep your windows from opening and closing easily. A mild solution of soap and water can be used to clean the window’s frame, sash and grilles, along with a soft rag, a microfiber cloth or a brush. First wipe off loose dirt and grime with a soft, dry cloth to clean the glass. Then use a cleaning solution and wipe in a circular motion.

The Don’ts

Avoid using squeegees because of the possible mess they might cause, especially for small panes. Stay away from cleaning products that might collect corrosive particles or more dirt when you’re done cleaning, such as wet lubricants or harsh cleaners.

Newspapers are especially popular as a cleaning tool for glass and many homeowners swear by them. However, some newspapers might be abrasive or leave traces of ink that can discolor your window glass.
