Finding the perfect window for each room in our home is much too easy today with all of the different choices and resources that are out there. So why do we still have rooms in our homes, like the bathroom, that have no windows at all?Sometimes there is a legitimate reason for no window, such as the bathroom has no exterior wall to install a window in. Other times it’s a space issue where the only place to install a window is above a bathtub or shower. While this second situation seems as good of a reason not to not have a window in the bathroom as the first, it’s really not.A window can be installed above a bathtub or shower just as easily as in any other location, there are just certain factors that need to be taken into account that you don’t have think about in the other locations. The Perfect Window Reveals NothingNo one wants the outside world to be able to see them while they are using their bathtub or shower, so the perfect window for this location will reveal nothing to the outside world. This is usually done by locating the window high enough that it is above the heads of anyone that would be standing in the bathtub or shower. It can also be accomplished with windows where the glass has a design embedded in the window itself, is frosted, is stained glass, or has distorted glass. All of these options allow the natural light to still come in your bathroom, but prevent others from being able to see in.The Perfect Window is Easy to CleanWhile bathroom windows that open are great to get fresh air flowing into the bathroom, they are also harder to clean than their fixed counterparts. This may not make much of a difference when the window is low enough that you can easily reach it when it is cleaning time. But when it is located above the bathtub and above your reach, it may prove difficult if not impossible to get the window really clean. So stick with a fixed window for locations that are hard to reach to give yourself fewer nooks and crannies to have to clean. The Perfect Window is Energy EfficientIt may not seem that important in your bathroom, but having an energy-efficient window in that room is. Think of all the cold, Louisville winters you have rolled out of your warm bed only to end up in a cold bathroom. That cold bathroom could be prevented in the future with an energy-efficient window to help keep the cold, Louisville, winter air outside.
