Thinking about selling your home in the spring? Before you put your home on the market, you may want to think about replacing your windows over the winter. Just by changing the windows on your home, it may help to increase the chance of your home selling faster and for more. Before you make the change though, consider these three things first. You will also want to get the opinion of your real estate agent as to what people are looking for before you decide on what style to choose.Question 1: Will New Windows Improve the Look?If your windows are falling apart, broken, or just look terrible it is making your home look terrible also. New windows should always be on the to-do list with all of the other cosmetic improvements that you would make to entice homebuyers. Neglecting to improve the look of your windows can prevent all of the other cosmetic improvements (new paint, new landscaping, etc.) from looking as good as they should.Another cosmetic issue that you will want to address if you live in an older model home, is the current style of windows you have. Have they been modernized so much over the years that they no longer fit the look of the home? For example, a home built in 1910 would greatly benefit from windows that match the style and architecture of that period, as compared to the vinyl windows from the 1990s that may be currently in place.Question 2: Will New Windows Increase the Value? Before you make any drastic changes to your windows though, talk to your real estate agent. They are the ones that know the market the best and will be able to go over with you what you should list your home for before and after the change.Once you have those numbers, you can then objectively decide whether replacing your windows will be worth the investment.Question 3: Other Window Improvements That Can Be Made?Aside from replacing your windows to improve upon the look of your home, you can also use new windows to improve on the view from your home and the energy efficiency of your home. These other improvements can be made by:

  • Changing to energy-efficient windows
  • Upgrading to double-pane windows if you only have single-pane ones
  • Changing from old, rotten wood frames to new vinyl frames
  • Putting a window in to see a great view that is being blocked by a wall
