There really is no time frame to tell you when it is time for new windows. Now, the window manufacturer can give a general timeframe of how long a window will last. However, just like with the tires on your vehicle, how long they last really depends on the use and the abuse they are subjected to.
Some people stick rigidly to the time frame given to them by the window manufacturer or the company that installs their windows, while others take a more laid back approach and completely forget how long they have had their windows. Instead, they look at their windows on their house one random day and decide that it’s time.
Regardless of which one you are, here are some hints that the time for new windows is approaching.
New Windows to Replace Damaged Ones
Windows can be damaged in a number of different ways. The glass can be broken out or cracked by an impact (rouge baseball, misjudged furniture move, lost bird, etc.). In these cases, new windows should be put in immediately.
They can also become damaged just because they are aging. Old windows can have issues with fogging, condensation, hard water build up, and marking in the glass. All of these make it difficult for you to see out of your windows, as well as make your home look more dingy and less cared for than it really is. These windows don’t need to be replaced immediately, but as soon as possible. Their time has expired on their use and they are no longer doing the job they were meant to do.
New Windows to be More Energy Efficient
A high power bill in the winter and summer months can be a good indication that new windows are needed. If you have older model windows, most likely they are letting heat escape from your home in the winter when you are trying to heat it. As well as letting the heat in during the summer, when you are running your air conditioner like crazy to try and cool your home down.
The new windows on the market today that are energy efficient can make a huge difference in the effort that both you and your heater (and air conditioner) put out to make your home comfortable. In the end not only will your life be easier, but it will also have the added benefit of a lower power bill each month.
